Piezoelectric Materials

Piezoelectric materials produce a voltage proportional to the mechanical pressure applied to them. There are a large number of materials which exhibit this property. The most common for commercial applications are PZT (lead zirconate titanate), barium titanate (BaTiO3), PMN-PT (lead magnesium niobate-lead titanate), and quartz. This property leads to a variety of useful applications. Piezoelectric speakers, sound detectors, cigarette lighters, quartz watches, sonar devices, ink jet printers and lithotripters all use piezoelectric materials. Kadco Ceramics has developed expertise in machining many of these materials into precise shapes for critical applications. We will be happy to discuss your designs.
